Week 19: AKA The Hiatus is Over

Hello everybody! I am back! I hope you all enjoyed your month, maybe got to tackle a few of the 100 prompts I’ve given you since the start of the year. Summer is off to a hot start. I am so grateful for central air, though I am not looking forward to my electric bill for next month.

I’ve more or less settled into my new routine with my (full-time) job. I thought the earlier shift and longer commute would end up cutting into my writing time, but I still have most of the same block of time free in the evenings that I had before. The biggest difference being that I haven’t been using that time for a lot of writing, instead using it to relax and unwind from the day.

I intend to continue at the daily pace I had before, but if I find myself getting burned out too quickly, I might scale back to a MWF schedule. I’d rather not take any more extended breaks than necessary. To facilitate that, I am once again trying to build a backlog of the prompts so that I have a buffer in case something comes up.

I also want to have the posts go up earlier on the day they are scheduled, rather than trying to come in before midnight. As it stands, my publishing schedule feels more like Tuesday-Saturday than Monday-Friday. I will start scheduling the posts to publish at 6 or 7am EST.

Well now that the housekeeping is out of the way, here are the prompts I will be posting this week. As usual, at the end of the week, these prompts will be updated with the links to the posts they appear in.

101. Write about a song and the memories it evokes in you.
102. Periodically we have tension build up in our lives that requires a release of some kind. Some people cry; others punch; some find a creative outlet. What is your release?
103. If you had lived hundreds of years ago, what kind of work do you think you would have done? What job would you have wanted to do?
104. Write about something you made by hand.
105. What is the weirdest name you can come up with (or know someone with)? If you had to give a character a really, really unusual name, what would you choose and what would it show about their personality?
106. Where do you like to do your journaling? At a desk, in your bed, at the coffee shop?

Also, ICYMI, I made a post a couple weeks into the hiatus detailing the recurring characters that appear in some of the prompts I’ve written. I explain some of the world stories and how they came to be in the first place. Check it out here.

Stay cool out there! Drink plenty of water! I’ll see you tomorrow!

  1. I’ve also just started a new full time position and it’s been interesting getting back into the habit of writing as much as I had before! It’s definitely more sporadic. I even write during my lunch break occasionally, haha.

    1. Congrats! Lunch breaks are great for squeezing in writing. I’ve been at my current full-time job for 2 years now. I only made that distinction here because I try to treat my blog like a side/part-time job, albeit one that doesn’t pay (yet, hopefully one day haha), so that I give it the attention it deserves. I figure if I ever want to write for a living, I’ve got to get in the habit of treating writing like a job and sticking to a schedule, regardless of what else is going on in my life.
