Whew! What a crazy couple of weeks it’s been! September has been a blur. I don’t think I’ve had this many plans in so short a span of time since the month I got married. Back then, in addition to our wedding, his cousin got married at the beginning of the month, and we had a funeral to attend between hers and ours, all while making final preparations for our wedding and honeymoon.
But I digress. This month wasn’t quite that hectic I don’t think. We went to a football game. I turned 30. We took a vacation to the west coast for the first time. Met some extended family out there for the first time. We got to see one of our college friends marry the love of his life this weekend. It was all very fun and peaceful.
Speaking of our vacation, I loved the island. Thursday was an incredibly long day. 8.5 hours of flying, driving through an unfamiliar area to go tour a massive air framer facility for an hour and a half, all on two hours of sleep was wild. Either the island air did me good or my mattress at home is really that awful because I got the best sleep in years on the pullout couch at my MIL’s cousin’s house. (Probably a bit of both, we reaaally need a new mattress.)
I’ve lived in the northeast my entire life. I’ve always said I could never live anywhere that didn’t have all four seasons. After spending a long weekend in the northwest, I think I could get used to not having winter. If I want to go skiing, it’s not very far to the biggest mountains I have ever seen. I grew up in the Adirondacks. I live in CT. I laugh at their “mountains” here. The mountains out there make my beloved ADKs look like little mole hills. Absolutely stunning.
The best part of the trip was meeting new family and knowing if we ever want to visit again, we have a home we can stay at. Hell, if we decide we can’t stand it here anymore and move out to Everett or thereabouts we know we have an easy weekend getaway too. I mean, just look at these pictures!
I got a lot of gorgeous landscape shots on my new phone that I hope will be useful references in my future writing. My plans of writing on my flights did not pan out, as I was too sleep-deprived on the flights out and didn’t have a good spot for my laptop on the flights back. Ah well. C’est la vie.
September has been a bad month for my word count overall. I had a lot of 0 days this month. More than a week’s worth. But I made up for it on the days I did have for writing and my daily average is still above my daily target to reach my goal of 200k for the year. Which, come to think of it, I will probably hit next week. I’m currently at 196k! That’s a lot of words!
Speaking of words and prompts for getting them out, let’s see what’s in store for this week.
341. What makes you a good friend?
342. Do you think world peace is an illusion?
343. What is your most expressive characteristic and in what ways do you express it?
344. What is your favorite way to end the day?
345. Is there anything you feel is too commercialized?
Hmm, some interesting questions in there. I hope I can come up with some short stories to answer them. I prefer writing the short stories over the personal essays, but sometimes the essay is the better medium for me to answer the prompt. They tend not to take as long to write either, because they usually turn into a stream of consciousness as I work through my thoughts on the prompt. But, writing out my thoughts still counts as writing so if that’s what it takes to get the words out, that’s what I’ll do. Maybe one of these will spark an idea for the short short story contest. That deadline is fast approaching too, eek!
Sorry for the late update! I hope your weekend was as full of love and fun as mine was. Get some rest. I’ll see you tomorrow for our regularly scheduled prompt date!
