Prompt 168-Offensive

What is the most offensive thing you have ever heard anyone say?

“I can’t believe you would even say such a horrible thing!”

“What? Why are you so upset?”

“I thought I knew you. I thought we were friends!”

“You’re being ridiculous. There’s no reason we can’t still be friends!”

“No. You’ve cut me deep.”

“Ugh.”

“You don’t even care!”

“It’s not a big deal!”

“Omg.”

“You are taking this way too seriously.”

“Too seriously? TOO SERIOUSLY? It is probably THE most serious issue dividing our society.”

“And now you’re being melodramatic.”

“You’re a monster!”

“Because I prefer movies to books?”

“YES!”

“Whatever.”

Notes: Yeah I didn’t really know what to write for this one so I decided to go a silly route. People are offended by all kinds of things, some rightly so, others not as much. I don’t think of myself as someone who is easily offended, as I tend to laugh off most bad things, and I don’t like to dwell on anger. I’m also guilty of laughing at tasteless jokes that are created with the intent to be offensive, though I like to think I’m laughing out of incredulity than actual entertainment. Mostly though, I’m just tired of the jokes.

The most important thing, though, is to listen when someone tells you something you’ve said was offensive. Understand why they are hurt by the words you used and be better. Or don’t. No one is going to force you to be mindful of your language. Free speech and all. But you do have to live with the consequences of your choices. If you push people away because you’re insensitive, that’s on you.

I don’t really know what else to say about this prompt. It did not inspire me as much as some others. But it got me sitting at my computer for an hour or so brainstorming things to write. And my subconscious was working away at other writing things so it was helpful in that regard at least.

Anyway, that will do it for tonight. Friday will be a twofer. Have a great rest of your week!
