Prompts 169-170

169. What do you want your retirement to be like?

When I retire, I want to run an animal rescue. Specifically I want to host my own Kitten Academy. All the kittens, all the time. The wonderful Mr. A and lovely DJ foster new momcats and their kittens until they are all old/healthy enough to adopt. They are based in IL but I would love to start an east coast branch someday.

If I am not fostering and rehabilitating new kittens, I would like to travel. I want to eat all kinds of new foods and see all sorts of landmarks and museums and climb mountains and swim with dolphins. I want to get lost somewhere and find my way back.

When I’ve had all the excitement I can stand, I’ll return home, and spend the rest of my days reading as many books as I can get my hands on. And rereading books I’ve read a hundred times.

Basically, I’m gonna do whatever I want, when I want to. Retirement will be fun.

170. What one issue is most important to you when voting for political candidates?

I can’t say I’ve ever really thought about this in depth. So often it seems to come down to a “lesser of two evils” compromise that it’s hard to pinpoint any one issue as being the most important. Still, if I suppose if I had to pick a topic to zero in on, it’d be education support/reform.

Do they want to keep our schools funded? Do they care about the children in our community enough to invest in their futures? Are they going to vote to slash the budgets or will they work to find ways to increase funding? What are their views on standardized testing? How well do they want to compensate teachers? How do they want teachers to be evaluated?

I don’t have kids of my own. I don’t really plan to in the future. But I’ll be damned if I don’t do something to help propel the next generation forward. These kids are capable of amazing things and we, as adults, need to do everything in our power to support them and lift them up to be the best possible version of themselves.

Notes: That wraps up this week! I know it’s not a long post to close out Friday, but an hour spent writing is an hour spent wisely. I’ll return on Sunday with a new list of prompts. Have a great weekend!
