Hello, hello! How was your weekend? Did you spend time with loved ones? Finish a project you’ve been working on? Watch that show you’ve been meaning to catch up on? Something else? Nothing? That’s all wonderful! Today was a very lazy Sunday. I did nothing all day until I went grocery shopping a little bit ago. Yesterday was a bit busier though!
My husband and I went to an early bird showing of How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. The tickets are much cheaper for the first showing of the day, but I’m also part of our theater’s movie club so I get free tickets every month anyway. I haven’t been to the movies since I signed up with the program back in November so I had 2 free tickets saved up. Plus, the movie club gives me 20% off concessions too so we had a movie date with snacks for under $12.
I love the HTTYD movies. It’s rare that a sequel is better than the first movie, but for the Dragon movies I thought the second one was the best of the three. Hidden World is beautiful, and it stays true to the spirit of the series, but it didn’t surpass either of the first two films. Which is not to say that it’s not a good movie, it just doesn’t do anything new.
It’s also less of a quirky adventure film and more a romantic comedy (though there is plenty of action to go around). Toothless’s attempts to woo the female Fury dovetail the scenes of Hiccup and Astrid pondering the future of their own relationship. “The dreaded “M” word” is brought up early and often. (I’m with Gobber on this one: hurry up and start making beautiful, powerful babies!) In the end, it’s the strength of the relationships and the bonds between the characters that help them through.
I’m sad that the series is over. I love those characters so much. But it was a solid and satisfactory ending. And the epilogue is amazing. And I want to go to the hidden world. SO MANY DRAGONS.
After the movie, we went shopping and I picked up my preorder for Last of Her Name by Jessica Khoury; a book I have been waiting (im)patiently for since I first learned of it last summer. It’s a sci-fi retelling of Anastasia, and I’ve been fascinated with her story since I was a kid and saw the animated movie so as soon as I saw “Anastasia in space” I had to have it. Although, in true slacker fashion, now that I have it, I’ve only read the first chapter. We had plans with friends last night around dinnertime so I didn’t want to start reading it before we left. I don’t really have an excuse for why I didn’t read more of it today.
But now that Sunday is over, it’s time to get back to work tomorrow. That includes the daily writing. Here are the prompts for this week!
214. What is the best pickup line you know?
215. What are some of the hard facts about life?
216. Which is stronger, love or hate?
217. If you could live to see any event in the future, what would that event be?
218. Does religion play an important role in your life? Why or why not?
Oof, some tough ones in there. Should be an interesting week! Have a great night! See you tomorrow!
