Author: Sara

I'm a 31 year old kid who plays an adult at work, doing data analysis in the aerospace industry. When I'm not sorting through Excel spreadsheets there or banging my head against my keyboard at home hoping for a story to come out of the garbage, I'm usually reading through a stack of books or watching anime or playing tennis with my husband.

June Special: Recurring Characters

I still can’t believe I’ve written from 100 prompts this year. Some have come easier than others, and I tend to make clear which ones I’ve preferred over the ones I’ve hated. When I first started out back in January, I had ambitions of turning every prompt into a short story. As I closed in … Continue reading June Special: Recurring Characters →

Prompt 100-Recurring Dream

Do you have any dreams that recur? Why do you think you continue to have that dream? “Mara! Mara! Guess what!” The children’s squeals jerked Tamara from her midday lull. She had begun to drowse while mending a worn dress. Their excitement filled her until she thought she would burst. “What’s going on?” she asked. … Continue reading Prompt 100-Recurring Dream →

Prompts 98-99

Prompt 98: What is your favorite game to play? My favorite game to play is the one where I sit at my computer, open up a blank Word document and wait for the muse to show up and help me write. Oh! Or the one I like to play at work called "I Didn't Change … Continue reading Prompts 98-99 →

Prompt 97-Parental Advice

You have a child and you have written one piece of advice that will be carried in their pocket for life. What is that advice? I messed up a lot growing up. I ran with a rough crowd. You know the type, always getting into fights, stealing things, drinking and smoking even though most of … Continue reading Prompt 97-Parental Advice →

Prompts 95-96

Prompt 95: If you could have one talent that you do not naturally have, what would it be? I have many talents, but I consider myself a jack-of-all-trades master-of-none type. There are many things I am average at that other people might have no skills in whatsoever. Cooking, skiing, swimming, singing, writing, just to name … Continue reading Prompts 95-96 →

Prompt 94-Celebrity Letter

Think of a celebrity you would like to have dinner with. Write a note that just might catch that person’s attention enough for him/her to agree to the dinner. To Mr. Tom Cruise I’d like to tell you a story about a starstruck young woman on top of a mountain. It was mid-September, 2013. You … Continue reading Prompt 94-Celebrity Letter →

Week 18

Happy Memorial Day weekend America! And a lovely weekend to everyone else! I've been soaking up the sun at my mother-in-law's while my husband has been frying to a crisp. One more day off before we have to head back home and return to our real lives, but it's been a relaxing few days off. … Continue reading Week 18 →

Prompt 93-Budget Relaxation

You have two hours to do something relaxing and a budget of $100. What will you do? I’m a woman with simple pleasures. If the weather is nice, I will go to the nearest convenience store, buy an Arizona Green Tea with Ginseng and Honey, and maybe a bag of nuts or chips, depending on … Continue reading Prompt 93-Budget Relaxation →

Imagine you are a news anchor. Write the beginning of tonight’s newscast. Make the top story what you truly think could happen today, or what you wish would happen today. Good evening.
